Useful Terms - diversity in the workplace

Equality

is the state or quality of being essentially equal: of being allowed to have equal access and opportunity in society.

Equitable in use

allowing for a wide range of people with diverse abilities

Flexibility in use

and working arrangements leading to improved work/life balance.

Genuine occupational requirements

are allowed where it can be shown, in very limited circumstances, that there is a genuine and determining requirement for someone to be treated differently on prohibited grounds, for instance an employer can prove a genuine requirement of a job is a specific gender.

Harassment

is when a person subjects another to unwanted conduct that has the purpose or effect of violating their dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment. This includes actual or perceived conduct.
